The MOME Laboratory creative community, who, though their complex activities have been both generating and managing the transformation process since 2014, are a key spiritual workshop for the campus development of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. MOME Laboratory is a workshop dedicated to the HUF 20 billion total cost construction project of key significance from the perspective of the national economy; and will continue to perform duties from 2014 to 2019, i.e. till the end of campus development. Besides the implementation of the construction program, its most important goal is to guide the community of the university from the 20th century to the 21st century.
Prepared in 2015 by MOME Laboratory, the Integrated Institution Development Programme (2014-2018-2030) is not only the basic conceptual document of the Creative Innovation Knowledge Centre, but also a vision and an action plan. In addition to depicting the institution’s new type of socio-economical engagement with new content and its training and educational model, the publication presenting the university’s vision also outlines the guidelines and criteria for the architectural development of the MOME Campus.
Numerous chapters, about specific areas, in the Integrated Institution Development Programme were written with involvement of international and domestic experts, and preceded by the preparation of preliminary studies. MOME Laboratory took a major role in preparing and organising the architectural design competition for campus development, and has been participating daily in managing and controlling the design programs pertaining to the various construction phases, from design consultations through taking final architectural decisions up to details of execution. There are a thousand threads linking the Laboratory’s work to the activities of MOME’s professional staff and organisational units. Their common task, encompassing the most diverse forms and platforms (integrated courses, consultative forums, actions), is to engage the university’s community, as much as possible, in the development process and, due to the model situation and role, to widely collectivise the achievements in, and experiences from, the transformation. Under the supervision of Gábor Kotek DLA, the Prime Minister’s commissioner, MOME Laboratory works on the complete physical and spiritual rejuvenation of MOME, with the participation of the following people as team members in the continual work: József Fülöp, Zsombor Nagy, Dániel Barcza, András Derényi, Rita Mária Halasi, Ákos Juhász and Dániel Kovács.
